Outbound Exchange Program
Program Introduction Outbound Exchange Program is a program where you pay the tuition fee to Hanyang University and spend one or two semesters studying at a partner university that has bilateral agreement. The earning credits from the host university can be transferred back to HYU.

* Students can go abroad to a partner university where the following conditions are all fulfilled.
  • A.both General and Student Exchange Agreements with HYU are valid
  • B.a balance in the exchange numbers is achieved
Eligibility All full-time HYU undergraduates are eligible to apply, if they :
  • 1.Academic Requirements
    A. have completed 2 to 7 graded semesters by the time of exchange recruitment opens (December/July).
        (2 to 9 semesters for those who are majored in Architecture)
    B. Master’s degree students may be acceptable to some of partner universities in China or Japan. *ONLY qualified to study abroad in their third semester.
        (1st semester: Enrollment 》 2nd semester: Application for exchange 》 3rd semester: Study Abroad as exchangers 》 4th semester: Return to study at HYU)
    C. Students are NOT eligible if they :
        1) are expected to graduate or extended the status of graduation
        2) are double-majored (minor or multi-fields are not included)
        3) have already participated in the exchange program for one year (two semesters)
        4) are applying for two consecutive semesters (a full-year selected students are not included)

  • 2.Grades (4.5-point scale)
    A. attain a Cumulative Average Point(GPA) of at least 2.5
    B. For Master’s students: Cumulative Average Point(GPA) of at least 2.5 for both undergraduate and graduate
    C. For Transferred students: Cumulative Average Point GPA of at least 2.5 from both previous and current university

  • 1. Submit an online application (HY-portal)
  • 2. Prepare your study abroad plan and upload all required documents online
  • 3.University Placement (Evaluated by GPA + Language Scores+ Written Plan)
  • 4.Attend orientation
  • 5.Apply individually following the host university’s application process
  • 6.Receive your admission letter and individually apply for VISA
  • 7.Pay tuition fees to HYU to remain enrolled
  • 8.Submit your report and apply for credit transfer right upon your arrival

Hanyang International Summer School

Hanyang International Summer School
Program Introduction Hanyang International Summer School is a short-term education program that started in 1990 for foreign students living abroad in Korea during their summer vacation every year. The students who participate in the program will learn about Korea’s politics, economy, society, history, and culture through classes at the university and other various cultural experiences outside of the university. Hanyang International Summer School is used as an opportunity for Hanyang University students and students from universities abroad to build academic and cultural exchange opportunities.
Language Used During the Program All classes are conducted in English.
Location of the Program Seoul Campus
Eligibility to participation Full-time university students at a foreign university (including prospective students), Enrolled students at Hanyang University or students on a leave of absence (excluding students expected to graduate/students on graduation extension)
Course registration and precautions
  • 1. Course registration
    A. Separate notification of course registration and available subjects through Hanyang Portal in May of every yea
    B. Application is made through the system of application for reception in the same way as the regular semester.
    C. All courses available in the international seasonal semesters are English-only A type courses (recognized as English-only courses)

  • 2.Precautions
    A. You can apply for the same course with the general season semester, but you cannot apply for a course that is lectured at the same time.
    B. Other credit recognition programs (language training, student financed, field training, etc. during vacation) cannot be recognized at the same time.
    C. When taking the same course number, the same course classification is applied to the same curriculum, but in some cases, when taking higher year (3rd / 4th year) courses it might not be applied, so even if you take the same course, the course classification may vary for each student, so you must check it with the administrative team of your department in advance.
    D. For retake courses is accepted only if you take a course with the same course number.

Program Introduction The language study abroad credit recognition program recognizes three credits (elective credits) if a student takes a language course for two weeks / 48 hours or more and receives a certification of completion at a foreign university or a university subsidiary language institute that issues a two to four-year degree.
Eligibility for Application
  • Students must have enrolled in at least one semester at the time of application
  • Students who have an average Cumulative GPA above 2.0
  • Students who have been enrolled in the university for more than eight semesters are ineligible to apply

  • 1. Students are allowed to apply only once while enrolled at the university
  • 2. Programs from private language institute are not accepted
  • 3. Students must register for the program prior to departure (Student’s credits will not be accepted after completion under any circumstances)

  • 5. Documents that must be submitted upon arrival

    - Summer School semester (late August): Students who submitted their certificate of completion from March to August

Program Introduction The study abroad program for summer and winter school is a program in which students pay their own expenses to participate in International Summer / Winter program hosted by other universities affiliated with Hanyang University during the vacation period, and receive recognition from Hanyang University
  • Students must have enrolled in at least one semester at the time of application
  • Students who have an average Cumulative GPA above 2.0
  • Students who have been enrolled in the university for more than eight semesters are ineligible to apply

소개 The program is designed to students who plan to experience abroad at our non-partner universities for one or two semesters. Students have to pay tuition fees to both HYU and visiting university to remain enrolled for the full duration of studying. In order to transfer back the earned credits from visiting university, students must have applied and approved by HYU a semester ahead of schedule.
 
  • A.Students should individually find out and get accepted by the visiting university
  • B.In case of long-term applicants, they must pay tuition fee to both HYU and visiting university. *80% of HYU tuition fee will be waived after approval
  • C.In case of short-term applicants, they do no need to pay tuition to HYU.
  • D.Students in their final semester of study at HYU are not eligible

    a) attain a Cumulative Average Point of above 2.5 on 4.5 point of scale (F grades are included)
    b) have completed 2 to 6 graded semesters and remain enrolled at HYU at the time of application
    c) Students who are in their final semester and expected to graduate or extended the status of graduation are NOT eligible.

  • 2.Short-term applicants are eligible to apply, if they
    a) attain a Cumulative Average Point of above 2.0 on 4.5 point of scale (F grades are included)
    b) have completed 1 to 7 graded semesters at the time of application
    c) Students who are soon to be graduating or extended the status of graduation are NOT eligible.

  • NOTE:
    - Application and approval must be completed by HYU a semester ahead of intended semester (e.g. Studying Abroad in Spring /Summer 2021 → apply in December 2020 or February 2021)
    - For long-term applicants, those who took a leave of absence must re-enrolled to apply for the program.
    - For long-term applicants, if there’s on-campus scholarships awarded on the intended overseas semester, those will be automatically cancelled in principle.
    - (*scholarships from outside of campus need further discussion with Student Support Team accordingly).
    - Master/Doctoral students are NOT eligible to apply

    b) A official letter of admission or equivalent approved document(KOR/ENG)
        - if it’s mot in stated language, an additional translated document is needed
        - completed tuition fee must be indicated in this document for long-term

Study Abroad Scholarship

Study Abroad Scholarship
Program Introduction Study Abroad Scholarship is a program to help Hanyang graduates who go overseas for their master’s / doctoral degree. The selection opens in May-June per year, the awarding period for 1 to 2 years depends on the evaluation. The details are subject to change, students must refer to the website once the application opens.
Eligibility
  • All full-time HYU undergraduate degree graduates are eligible to apply, if they :
    • 1.have Bachelor’s degree from HYU and attain a cumulative average point of at least 3.5 on 4.5 point scale (both bachelor’s and master’s for master’s degree holder).
    • 2.obtained their final education within three years except for military service period
    • 3.accepted the admission and scheduled to enroll in the year of applying
    • 4.are under the age of 35
    • 5.do not have restrictions on travelling and studying overseas
    • 6.have TOEFL IBT score of above 91 or IELTS academics score of above 6.5
    • ※ conditional admission is not acceptable, and an official letter of admission must be prepared to submit during the application period.
